There are so many things to do in New York City, and so many of our guests have visited (numerous times) that this section can hardly do our hometown justice. So we decided to include a few of our favorite things as a mini-guide to New York City. Broadway Shows: The location of our wedding (and all of the hotels we recommended) allows you to easily participate in one of Alyssa's favorite activites: seeing a Broadway Show. Some of our favorites (or shows we have heard good things about): - "Avenue Q" 252 W. 45th Street (near 8th Avenue). For tickets call (212) 239-6200
- "Chicago" 215 W. 49th (near Broadway). For tickets call (212) 239-6200
- "Gypsy" 246 W. 44th Street (near 8th Avenue). For tickets call (212) 239-6200 (did not get the best reviews but it's one of Alyssa's favorites)
- "In the Heights" 226 W. 46th Street (near Broadway). For tickets call (212) 307-4100
- "I love you, you're perfect, now change." 407 W. 43rd Street (near 9th). For tickets call (212) 315-3202 (We went to see this off-broadway show soon after we started dating).
- "South Pacific" 150 W. 65th Street (near Broadway). For tickets call (212) 239-6200. (We have not seen it but some members of the wedding party have and raved about it).
- "Spamalot" 225 W. 44th Street (near 7th) For tickets call (212) 239-6200
Watch Giants Football: One of Ted's favorite activities (though Ted has turned Alyssa into a big Giants fan as well). Watch the Giants-49ers game on Sunday, if you are still in town the day after our wedding. Either try to buy tickets on stubhub.com or go to Pete's Tavern, New York City's oldest pub, to watch it. Pete's Tavern is at 129 E. 18th St, at Irving Pl.
Central Park/Central Park Zoo: Another great attraction near the wedding and the reserved hotels. You could partake in one of our favorite activities by visiting The Central Park Zoo located at 64th Street and Fifth Avenue (approximately 10-15 minute walk from the Essex House Hotel). The Central Park Zoo is open Monday-Friday (10-5) and Sat-Sunday (10-5:30). Admission is: $8 (for adults), $3 (for children), $4 (for seniors). For more information visit: http://nyzoosandaquarium.com/czabout. Brooklyn Bridge: While this attraction, unlike most of the others above, requires a subway, bus, or cab ride, we highly recommend it! You can either actually cross the bridge (via the pedestrian walkway which gives you some of the best views of New York City) or you can get great views of the Brooklyn Bridge from the South Street Seaport (the manhattan side) or from the Promenade in Brooklyn Heights (just a few blocks from Ted's childhood home). You can reach the South Street Seaport by taking Subway: A, C, 2, 3, 4, 5 to Fulton St./Broadway Nassau. You can reach the Brooklyn Heights Promenade by taking the Subway: 2, 3 to Clark St.; A, C to High St. For more information please see: http://www.southstreetseaport.com/html/ and http://www.fodors.com/world/north-america/usa/new-york/new-york-city/review-138482.html
